Frequently Asked Questions

What is TTRPG Therapy?

TTRPG (Tabletop Roleplaying Game) Therapy is a form of group counselling that uses collaborative storytelling games—like Dungeons & Dragons—as a therapeutic tool. Led by a trained counsellor and game facilitator, participants create characters, work together to face challenges, and explore meaningful themes through gameplay. It's fun, imaginative, and grounded in evidence-based approaches to support emotional, social, and behavioural growth. In short: it’s therapy through adventure, teamwork, and story.

Who can play in a TTRPG Therapy group?
Our TTRPG therapy groups are open to children (10–12 years), teens (13–18 years), and adults (18+). We offer separate groups for each age range, so the experience is developmentally appropriate and socially safe. Whether you're working through anxiety, looking to improve social skills, or just hoping to connect with others in a meaningful way, there’s a place for you at the table.

What is Geek Therapy?
Geek Therapy is a creative, client-centred approach to counselling that uses elements of pop culture, fandom, games, and personal passions to support mental health and wellbeing. Whether it’s superheroes, video games, tabletop RPGs, sci-fi, anime, coding, sport, or music—we tap into what excites and inspires you as a way to explore deeper emotional themes, build trust, and encourage personal growth.
At Brave Counselling, we believe therapy can be fun. Geek Therapy allows us to speak your language and meet you where you are. When clients feel safe, understood, and energised by the things they love, real transformation becomes possible.
Because in the end, we’re all geeks about something—and your passions are part of your story, not separate from it.

How much does it cost?
Our group programs are offered in 10-session blocks:
  • 10-12 Years Old: $100 per session (2 hours)
  • Teenagers and Adults: $120 per session (3 hours)
One-on-one counselling sessions are also available at $160 per hour, offering personalised support tailored to your goals and needs.
We may offer reduced rates or payment plans depending on individual circumstances—please contact us to discuss options.
NDIS Self-Managed Plans
If you're on a self-managed NDIS plan, you may be able to use your funding to cover the cost of individual or group sessions, depending on your goals. Let us know during your intake and we’ll provide invoices to suit your plan requirements.

Is this Therapeutic TTRPG real therapy or just a game night?

This is real, intentional therapy delivered by trained professionals. While the sessions are designed to be fun and engaging, they’re also structured with clear therapeutic goals, group agreements, and professional boundaries. TTRPG therapy is evidence-informed, grounded in counselling frameworks, and supported by research in mental health, education, and neurodiversity.

Is It Just for Kids? Not at all! While TTRPG therapy is fantastic for young people, it’s just as powerful for adults. Our adult groups explore real-life challenges like identity, anxiety, relationships, trauma recovery, and life transitions—all within a creative, non-threatening framework.

Is this only for people into geek culture?
